Migration of approx. 25,000 legacy-PDF pages to SGML for Airbus accomplished

The "G2E"-network with TD&DS has successfully accomplished the Airbus-order "TDUR LR CMM Migration" (Technical Data Upgrade Repair - Long Range Component Maintenance Manuals)

After a project duration of almost a year and a workload of several man-years, TD&DS (in cooperation with its network partners GCT and Eurodoc (France)) has successfully accomplished the Airbus-project "TDUR LR CMM Migration" (Technical Data Upgrade Repair - Long Range Component Maintenance Manuals).

This project had the objective of migrating CMM PDFs (mainly only available as image-PDFs) to structured SGML. The order covered almost 170 manuals with a total volume of approx. 25,000 pages to be migrated.

In parallel to this project Airbus had contracted the network for the migration of its long-range NTMs, also from legacy PDFs to SGML. This order with a scope of approx. 250 NTMs and more than 2,800 pages has just been completed.

The successful completion of these migrations within the tight schedule (while fulfilling the high Airbus standards) was only possible by deploying the TD&DS development "ARDOS" with its "PDF2SGML" component. This system executes a major part of the PDF conversion automated and independently creates the basic information structures with full integration of the Airbus databases.

This project has impressively proven the operability and efficiency of the ARDOS component "PDF2SGML" under in-service conditions. The next stage of developments, which features the migration of PDF illustrations to CGM and the migration of the parts lists is currently in the prototyping phase.
